So have you ever wanted to become a Greenpeace activist, well, here’s the story.Firstly, the organisation was begun in 1971 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to oppose the U.S. testing nuclear devices in Alaska. In later years it has been attached to environmentalism, and is best known for campaigns against whaling, deforestation, global warming and genetic engineering. Their official statement is:
“Greenpeace is an independent, campaigning organization which uses peaceful direct action and creative communication to expose global environmental problems, and to force solutions for a green and peaceful future. Greenpeace's goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity”
As of March 2007, their main priorities include stopping climate change, preserving oceans, saving ancient oceans, peace and nuclear disarmament, promoting sustainable agriculture and eliminating toxic chemicals.
So if you want to join the campaign (who knows, one day you may sail one of their famous ships) visit:
